FIRST NATIONS IMPACT MASTERCLASS (WA)
Supported by Screenwest and the Government of Western Australia, the First Nations Impact Masterclass is an immersive program for filmmakers, changemakers, creatives, community storytellers or anyone curious about the power of documentary to create transformative change. Over two days (Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August) we’ll explore how documentary and impact strategies can amplify your work and strengthen community.
The Impact Masterclass shares best-practice methodologies for creating impact in film production from a First Nations framework. Participants will learn from industry leaders and case studies, gaining the theory, experience and insight needed to understand the benefits of impact frameworks for storytelling and distribution.
Up to 15 participants will be selected via Expression of Interest. They will be invited to attend the free Masterclass, engaging in facilitated discussions, learning and reflecting with First Nations and industry facilitators, in a focused, intimate environment grounded in cultural safety.
Applications close on Wednesday 22 July at midnight AWST
PROGRAM
FOUNDATIONS
The First Nations Impact Lab is GARUWA and Doc Society’s internationally recognised five-day, on Country program delivered in partnership with Shark Island Foundation and generously supported by Screen Australia First Nations Department and Screen NSW. We work intensively with First Nations practitioners with active projects or concepts to develop impact strategies.
The Impact Masterclass draws directly on the methodologies and insights developed through three years of delivering the Lab, distilling that expertise into a focused two-day introduction, creating a strong grounding in impact frameworks and best practice.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
The Masterclass is open to Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander people in WA working in or curious about the screen sector, whether you’re an established or emerging filmmaker, or just starting to explore documentary as a tool for change. You don’t need to have a project underway to apply, but if there’s something you’re developing or thinking about, this is a great space to bring it!
